Equipment

  • ice cream maker

Ingredients

Cranberry Sauce

  • 3 cinnamon sticks broken up
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 whole nutmeg
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • zest of one lemon
  • juice of one lemon

Gelato

  • 2 cups Cranberry Sauce cold
  • 1 cup heavy cream cold
  • 1 cup whole milk cold
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Instructions

Cranberry Sauce

  • Make the Cranberry Sauce.  Place the cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg in a piece of cheese cloth and tie into a bundle with cooking string. Place spice bag, cranberries, water, sugar, zest and juice in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar.  Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 15 minutes.  Cranberries will begin to burst.  Remove from heat, cover and let steep for about 10 minutes.  Pour out into a shallow dish and refrigerate until fully cold.  Remove spice bag when getting ready to use.

Gelato

  • For the gelato, mix all ingredients in a large bowl and whisk to make sure the sugar has dissolved.  Add gelato mixture into your ice cream machine and process for about 20 minutes or until thickened and creamy.  Scrape gelato into a freezer safe shallow container and freeze until firm as you like.
