The Best Sugar Cookies Again

Sibby Barrett
Here's my favorite Sugar Cookie Recipe that I have posted before, but it bears repeating, cause they're that good, and easy, and delicious. And perfect for a Valentine's Day Treat
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 12 minutes
chilling 1 hour 10 minutes
Course Dessert, cookies
Cuisine American
Servings 35 cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter room temp
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs room temp
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract or desired extract
  • 2 tablespoons cream, half and half or milk
  • 4 cups flour all purpose
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  • In a stand mixer, using the paddle, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add in the eggs, vanilla and cream and mix well.
Mix the dry ingredients together and slowly add to the creamed mixture. Divide dough into 2 equal portions and flatten into a disk on plastic wrap. Wrap tightly and chill for at least 1 hour or overnight. (Or place in freezer for 30 minutes)
Preheat oven to 350º. Remove dough from where you were chilling it and let sit out until it is just beginning to soften. Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to about a ¼" thickness. Cut into desired shapes and place on a parchment covered sheet pan, about 2" apart. Chill shapes for at least 10 minutes.
Bake for about 12 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges. They will crisp up more as they cool. Let cool a minute or two and then move to wire racks to cool completely.
Frost and decorate as desired. If sprinkling with sugar, do so just before baking or ice with Royal Meringue Frosting, Powdered Sugar Glaze or Buttercream Frosting. Buttercreams and Glazes will not completely dry hard for stacking or packing but will firm up a bit as they dry and do taste better and can be flavored in many ways. See Recipes for these three finishes.
